About our Coop

In 2001, a group of Brisbane parents had a vision to start a non-profit cooperative preschool in Brisbane. In August of 2002, the Brisbane City Council granted the lease to 4 Solano Street to Silverspot Nursery School and our school was born.

Silverspot Nursery School is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization licensed by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, Facility #414001706 and is a member of the CCPPNS California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools.

Our Mission

Silverspot is a parent-run, non-profit cooperative nursery school working to create a community of encouragement and learning for families.

Our mission is to provide a positive, safe, healthy environment in which children learn through a play-based curriculum.

A close connection with parents, teachers, and the community at large sets the stage for children to gain confidence, self-esteem, and social skills.

Parent Run

Our school allows parents and children to learn and grow together, creating a close-knit community. The school involves both child and parents, mutually sharing and participating in the school’s activities, giving them the opportunity to communicate, play and grow together.

By being directly involved in your child’s preschool experience, a precedent is set for making the child’s education an integral part of a family’s life, and sends a strong message to the child that his or her education is important.

Children develop supportive relationships with adults other than their own parents. Parents have the opportunity to meet, socialize and work cooperatively with a diverse group of parents from the community, and develop a network to provide emotional and practical support in parenting.

Each family shares in the planning and operation of the school. Parents play an important part in the experience for the children. Under the guidance of certified preschool teachers, parents participate in the daily program on a rotating basis. In addition to working with the children, parents are also active in the day-to-day planning and running of the school.
